Civil Alchemy is a lifestyle retail company offering functional, quality, and inspired goods. We are a brick & mortar institution within the historic neighborhood of Webster Groves, Missouri located just outside of Saint Louis.
Our multi-faceted store features products from housewares and apparel to specialty foods and beverages. Other items include wine, unique liqueurs, tools, and personal accessories including leather and jewelry. Along with goods sourced from premier local, national, and international vendors, we have launched our own of brand of products designed in-house and created with high-quality materials. Items in our debut line of goods range from Nepalese sourced felted wool bags, dryer balls and coasters, to specialty chocolate and gin- both created locally. Civil Alchemy’s Floral Gin no. 5 is a featured item of the brand’s debut line and is the result of their partnership with distillery of Defiance, a Missouri based gin producer.
Enter Civil Alchemy. To your left are displays of fresh flowers and a butcher-block table as part of our one-of-a-kind work station to build your own bouquet. Venture to the right, left and back of the store’s entry room and travel from the realm of camping necessities to personal style, past jewelry, jeans and apparel. Beyond the displays of goods that cater to the exploratory nature of us all lies the cozy light of Civil Alchemy’s annex: a room that houses the store’s provisions and household goods. With floor-to-ceiling shelving and library ladders to match, this room embodies the warmth of a comfortable dwelling offering daily fresh coffee for patrons, as well as biweekly tastings of specialty foods and spirits.
The founder is Kelley Barr, who in 2015 sold K. hall designs, an international personal care and home fragrance company with multiple company-held retail stores. From humble beginnings as a Michigan candle-maker, Barr has been steadily crafting and home-care goods and building businesses based on the curation of timeless home design. Civil Alchemy is her current entrepreneurial endeavor aiming to accent the lives of her community members, in the St. Louis area and beyond.
Hopefully, you find the essentials on our site. If you find yourself in the neighborhood, stop by to say hi (and try a bite of chocolate). Our door is open.
